5 Things I have learned Along The Way Of Blogging

I read many blogs on a daily bases. Even on the days when I do not write anything, I still read many blogs. I share my favorites or those I comment on. However, I notice some things while reading blogs. Now before I go further. I want to clarify one thing.

I am a mediocre blogger / writer. I will probably never make a ton of money doing what I love writing / photography. However, I believe I can help others go from being a beginner to mediocre. Or better yet get them further than me

Blogging and writing takes a lot of hard work. It can be a lonely place to be. Many don’t success as they give up too soon. Others find the right niche and audience right off the bat. They have many friends and family willing to help them in the blogging world. I have online friends. As I keep my blogging separate from my family.

Here are some things I have learned along the way of blogging :

1.To make a ton of money blogging. You have to have something to sell. Whether it is an e-book, photography, trick of the trade, or affiliates etc.
2. Finding the right affiliate sales that match your niche with the right audience. Since, I write on several different subjects on my blog. I have not found the right one for me. I tried doing it through Amazon. However, I didn’t make enough sales to ever make cash out. So, Amazon closed my affiliations.
3. Photographs are in demand. They must not be blurry, out of focus or a lot going on that takes away from the subject. Using a new photo is a must. The same photo might work in places like forums or a user photo is an easy way for others to find you. Not In the world of blogging, the same photo used for different blog posts. Makes your readers think they have already read that post. Thus will skip it. Try using a new photo, or a different angle of the same photograph works much better to get views.
4. Back linking helps bring older posts back to life. Some bloggers will create a blog post at the end of the month to sum up what they have shared and learned through their posts. Others do it weekly. It really depends on how much content you produce. Plus how much time you have to share it.

5. It is a must to join different social media outlets to share your content from your blogs on. Pinterest and Twitter seems to be the latest rage. StumbleUpOn and Facebook groups do well. Instagram your photo is the new rave. Google+ is similar to facebook with group s to join.

Find online bloggers and writers who will go out of their way to help promote other bloggers and writers content. That means visiting blogs, commenting on blogs, and sharing other blogs besides your own. You blog will not be a success if nobody knows about it but you. Put yourself out there. Make yourself know. Get your brand known. Return the favor by helping those who help you.

Just adding articles on a blog alone will not make you any money. You need to have something to sale. Whether it is a e-book, leads, affiliate marketing, ads etc.

Yes, that is why I encourage people to keep trying if they have a passion for writing.

By promoting my blog at Reddit I’ve been getting decent traffic since I moved it from BlogJob to Blogger, but I’m earning very little right now. I’ve had a few small sales through Amazon, but when I read other people’s experiences I worry that they’ll close my account too.

I have heard people use Reddit for their blogs. How do you promote your blog through Reddit? Do you share the link or is there another way?

I share links to my posts. The problem with Reddit is that each sub-Reddit has its own rules and not all of them will allow sharing. I’ve tried posting links elsewhere on Reddit and some of them aren’t visible to anyone but me.

I will have to experiment with the links than. I use to be active on it but haven’t been in many years.

I’ve been able to cash out with amazon a few times. It takes a long while for me. And if I don’t make another sale soon I’m going to worry about my account too.

My photography isn’t that hot. I know you can us places like Pixabay, but then so does everyone else.

I haven’t tried another affiliate place yet. I think I need to learn more on how to do it.

As for Pixabay, I like them because you can customize the picture to have a unique look.

I just wanted to comment on one of your opening statement. You said that you are a mediocre blogger. That is highly subjective. What one person thinks is mediocre, another person can think is great and visa versa. The same is true of any writing. I don’t consider myself to be a great writer and I’m continually trying to become better. Even then, what I write can be variable. I’ve found that a person might really enjoy one thing I write and not like something else I write. All of this is a long-winded way of saying that you shouldn’t sell yourself short. The spoiler about whether you are good or not is unneeded because it is up to each person to decide that on their own.

Ah, you do have a way to make people see with your words. Thank you.

That is great! I am glad you are able to. I haven’t figured out how to make sales.

These are useful tips to keep in mind for anyone new to blogging, or even an experienced blogger who is unsure where the income stream originates. I agree with Rex Trulove — please never sell yourself short. Keep doing what you love; your passion shows.
