Food Groups That Will Protect You from the Sun

 

As mentioned before, exposing yourself to sunlight helps build up the amount of Vitamin D in your body.  This vitamin is important for the overall health of your body.  However, these ultraviolet rays can cause damage as well if you are not careful.  They can lead to damage to your skin ranging from sun burn to skin cancer.  They can cause you to become dehydrated which can lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.  They can cause eye damage which can lead to cataracts and, in some cases, blindness.  So if you want to be in the sunlight to build up your vitamin D or if you just enjoy being outdoors, there are things you can do to protect yourself from the harmful effects of the sun.  These include using sunscreens, wearing a hat and drinking plenty of water.  However, there are certain food groups that will protect you as well.



The first thing you have to know about is there is a battle going on within your cells.  Sometimes your body has damaged cells in your body.  These are free radicals and they attack the healthy cells in your body and cause the healthy ones to become damaged.  This can lead to a wide variety of diseases.  There are foods that contain antioxidants.  These fight against the free radicals and help protect the healthy cells and destroy the damaged ones.

Lutein is an excellent mineral in protect you vision, especially when you get older.   This includes preventing macular degeneration from occurring. This also helps slow down the aging process in skin. Food that contains lutein is excellent to eat if you want to prevent wrinkles and age spots.  Foods that contain this include:

Selenium is another important mineral that helps the antioxidants to work within your body.  It is excellent in protecting your skin from the harm effect of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays.  Foods that contain this mineral include:

Many of these above foods are also major sources of Vitamin E, which we need for healthy skin.  This vitamin helps protect your skin cells from damage from sun exposure, sunburns and other things that attack your skin. When you go to the store to look for cosmetics, lotions and creams, look for ones that contain this vitamin.  The way it works when you apply them to your skin,  is the skin absorbs this vitamin.
