I don’t know if you have heard about the Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant. In the Philippines, this is a prestigious search for the beautiful, intelligent Filipina and it is in its 53rd-year edition for this year 2016.
This started in 1963. It is, therefore considered as the longest-running and well-sought beauty contest in the Philippines. The young, beauteous ladies who represent the various regions of the country are the usual participants. Once these young ladies are chosen in this pageant, they will represent the country to major international beauty contests like the Miss Universe.
This year’s lucky lady is the 25-year-old Maria Mika Maxine Medina of Quezon City. She took the title of 2016 Binibining Pilipinas against the other 39 beauty candidates who vie for this search which was held on Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
It is the issue on education which Maxine Medina answered raised by one of the judges, that added to more points to her standing score. The question is about the 15-year-0ld girl who doesn’t want to pursue her studies.
She simply answered it that the girl has to study hard, According to her it is education that can make her a better person.
While in her part, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach who was the 2015 Binibining Pilipinas winner, was reported to fly directly from the New York where she is currently based as the reigning Miss Universe to the country to crown Medina as her successor.
As an educator, I do appreciate the answer of the beauty queen. Education really can make anyone into a better person.
