Who doesn’t love apples? You can eat it as a snack or a dessert. There are many different recipes that include apples that you would love. You can eat them fresh; you can eat them cooked; you can eat them as a sauce; you can eat them in a pie; and so on. Both adults and children love apples. Not only do they taste good, they are loaded with many numerous health benefits. That proverb” an apple a day keeps the doctor away” is so true.

Apples are an excellent source of potassium. This helps break up calcium build up in the joints, which is the main cause of arthritis. Eating one apple a day helps relieve arthritic pain. According to the American Heart Association, we need 4,700 milligrams of potassium a day to lower blood pressure.  At almost 200 milligrams of potassium in a medium apple, this fruit is excellent in lowering the numbers.

Apples boost the immune system because they contain Vitamin C. If you have a cold or the flu, eating an apple can help fight the symptoms. You can even prevent yourself from getting sick in the first place by including an apple in your daily diet. Vitamin C, while it helps protect you from getting sick, also helps dilute the blood vessels and improves blood circulation.

It is said that foods that are rich in flavonoids reduce the risk of people, including women, of dying of a heart attack, heart disease and stroke by twenty percent. Apples contain a flavonoid called quercetin. This “ is used for treating conditions of the heart and blood vessels including “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis), high cholesterol, heart disease, and circulation problems” (WebMD). Since this flavonoid is found mostly in the skin, do not peel the apple before you eat it. Include the skin if you want to enjoy all the health benefits.

Apples are loaded with anti-oxidants. We need these to protect our bodies against free radicals or damaged cells. These damaged cells will attack the good ones and damage them as well. These anti-oxidants play a key role of destroying the bad cells before they cause any further damage.

Go ahead eat you apple and be healthy! However, do not eat the seeds because they can give you an upset stomach.
