Mining Industry on the Hot Seat

Since Mr. President, Rodrigo “ Digong” Duterte, appointed Ms. Gina Lopez to be Chairman of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the fight for illegal mining has been the hot topic here in the Philippines ( aside from DRUG WAR ). In fact, lots of mining company has been suspended or totally closed for not following the regulation set by Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) and DENR.On her first day in office, she ordered an AUDIT of ALL mining companies, in result, she suspended 4 companies. Almost every week, Ms. Gina Lopez visits each mining company all over the Philippines, especially in Surigao Area where most of the mining company can be found, and personally conduct the said inspection. She wants that every mining company should involves community development.

Share prices of mining and oil stocks in the Philippines has dipped as 6.43% as per PSE and many investors expect that it will be down for the next few weeks.

But, according to her, Gina Lopez, she just want that every mining company should follow “responsible mining”  so that people surrounding the area won’t be affected. Remember, few months ago, lots of people in that Province complain about too much pollution that threaten the life of the people.
