The Birthday Party That Never Was for the Couple

My handy phone vibrated. I picked it up and checked what’s the text message I received all about. I had just finished my cup of hot oatmeal for my breakfast. I told my wife I had to go to school before 10 in the morning. She did’t give me a word for she was busy at the kitchen preparing for the breakfast of our three grandchildren for they’d to go to school too.

It was already 9:30. I had to hurry for the transportation going to my school was scarce. Motorized tricycle was the common transportation the commutter could avail of. I took 5 minute shower and then wore my school uniform. I checked my phone’s time. It was already 10. Well, I had no choice but to take the service tryke of my son-in-law. He drove for me.

I was surprised two of my female teachers approached me and escorted me to the school stage. There I saw a medium size tarpaulin with a bold letters inscription, “Happy 65th Birthday, Sir Gil” with a big picture at the left side. One teacher led me up to the stage to sit on single upholstered chair. I was the star at that moment.

Then a short program followed with 13 of my teachers singing a special song for me, parents giving birthday presents, and the pupils from kinder class up to the grade six level handed their handmade birthday cards. As they gave me the card, they gave me a hug and kisses. I couldn’t measure how happy I was at the time. Finally I sliced the big birthday cake through the courtesy of my teachers.

The birthday and the farewell party was over. I went home full of gladness and being grateful to the thoughtfulness of everyone in the school.

At home nothing was prepared for I hadn’t given anything to my wife for our birthday celebration. I was running out of money for I had just retired and the last time that I received my salary was September. It would take so long to receive my monthly pension. The only thing we received was a gift from our youngest daughter.

As a routine I took my handy friend and then started pounding it for the updates of my blog and online writing job. Thirty minutes later, our daughter-in-law grabbed the hands of my wife and my daughter grabbed mine. They led us to the humble house of our eldest daughter. It was closed the suddenly it burst opened. We saw a cake on their table with 65 candle number on it. Around it were foods, drinks, and our favorite delicacies. Balloons and decorations all over the place.

I thought the party was over. Anyway as a matter of ceremony, my wife and I blew the candles and everybody sang the Happy Birthday song. Everybody was happy for the surprised birthday party tendered to us by our children and grandchildren. And finally the party was over. My wife and I were 65.

Below is a video created by our daughter-in-law for our birthday greetings:

Even your co-workers and students are nice but , it would have been wonderful if they have invited your wife. Truly, wonderful parents deserve so much.

They wanted to invite my wife but she couldn’t come for she’s attending to our 3 year old granddaughter who is studying in a private school.

Thanks… I am glad that you like the video. It was my daughter in law who created that video. She presented it to us before I offered the prayer for our birthday celebration.

Yew we were. My plan to have this party for both of us with my wife was in the later date till I got my first pension for my retirement. For me, it is better late than never. But we were caught by surprise by our thoughtful children and grandchildren. It was the first time that we had our birthday celebration by surprise. In fact to tell you, it was in our 60 years of age when we had our first birthday cake ever. It was our 2nd elder daughter who had gone to work abroad, who provided us the cake.

Since we were kids birthday party was a tradition. However, it is too different when you are already an adult or a senior citizen like my wife and me.

It is memorable indeed especially those surprises in the preparation for the foods, the simple birthday party, among others. Not only my wife and I enjoyed but the whole family.

Happy birthday to you! I remember you have the same birthday with your wife, right? As much as we sometimes do not want others to know it is our birthday, if they remember, we are very happy and thankful.

You still remember it right for we have together before as far as social media is concerned. We always involve the members of our family. It is our family affair.

Thank you and thank you! 🙂 We’re so glad to celebrate it together with my wife for the reason that we have the same birthday. It is apt to say that we are “happy together”.

It is a great, a great momentous day to both us. I am very thankful to those who are so thoughtful like the school children, the school teachers, the parents of the school children, and of course, the members of my family who always make us happy ever. And we also thankful to the Almighty who bless us another year to be of service to Him.

    1. Gil Camporazo Post author

That is right: love and care are the uplifting and inspiring words for both of us. We do share them too to our children, grandchildren, and in-laws.

    1. Gil Camporazo Post author

We are hopeful for that as long as we care, love and share our best of everything to everyone of us. We do love our family. We do care for them and we know that our family could be together forever.

Aww… this is so sweet. I hardly celebrate birthdays as I was always alone. It is pretty thoughtful hor the school and your family had a little celebration for you… Happy belated Birthday!

Though it’s late but the sincerity of sharing it and the way the greeting is effected is solid and from the heart. Thank you.
