The Health Benefits of Berries

Berries are very healthy for us. Easily found in either the produce or frozen food sections of your grocery store, your body will benefit when you add this healthy fruit to your grocery store. Berries contain anthocyanins which play a key role in lowering blood pressure, and also contain anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial properties.

Berries are excellent in protecting the body from pain due to inflammation, infections and play a key role in repairing damaged cells.
All types of berries play a role in lowering blood pressure, reducing cholesterol and reducing the risk of having heart disease. When you have too much low density lipoprotein (LDL)-also known as the bad cholesterol, the walls of your arteries get built up with fatty plaque. This will cause high blood pressure. This fatty plaque also restricts the blood flow through the arteries and can lead to a heart attack or stroke. Berries help prevent plaque build-up. Therefore, when you include berries in your daily diet, you are decreasing the chances of having a heart attack or stroke. However, do not just eat berries to have a healthy heart. Make sure that you are getting enough exercise, eat plenty of high fiber fruits and vegetables and quit unhealthy habits such as drinking and smoking

The dark pigments of certain berries such as blueberries, strawberries raspberries and blackberries contain phytochemicals and phytonutrients which are powerful antioxidants. We need anti-oxidants to protect our bodies against free radicals or damaged cells. These damaged cells will attack the good ones and damage them as well. Berries play a key role in destroying the bad cells before they cause any further damage.
Berries are a natural pain reliever because of their anti-inflammatory properties.   People who suffer from headaches, migraines, menstrual cramps, muscle spasms, toothaches, arthritic pain, gout, sprains and joint and muscle pain can find immediate relief by including this fruit in their diet.

Eating berries may give an individual an overall sense of well-being. You may notice that your sinuses are less clogged up, you sweat less and have fewer headaches. Along with these, you may feel more mentally alert, relaxed and refreshed both when you wake up and throughout the day.

While the obvious choice of berries is to purchase them fresh, they may be too expensive for your wallet. Frozen berries work just as well and you can even keep them in your freezer. You can also purchase juices that contain berries. However, make sure that they contain 100% fruit juice. Your local grocery store may carry supplements, capsules and tinctures.
