Use Your iPhone as Webcam?

Tuesday, August 16, 2016

I never bought a webcam because I don’t thing I really need one. But when I saw this iPhone to Webcam video on youtube, I decide to check it out and maybe try it for fun. It is about using your iPhone as a webcam. I remember a guy on Facebook I was chatting with was trying to tell me that I can use my iPhone as a webcam, but I didn’t understand his descriptions. And, maybe I didn’t trust the site that he gave me the link to download the drivers. I am paranoid when it comes to downloading stuff on the internet.

But according to his video, the first step involves going to the site,  and downloading window drivers. Follow installation instructions in the boxes the open up afterwards.

Then, go to your iPhone to install the Apps. Search for EpocCam Wireless Webcam, which is free, and install it on your iPhone. I don’t think I have installed any Apps before on my iPhone. I guess I don’t trust them, either, thinking that they might suddenly start charging me or there might be spyware on these Apps. Who knows?

It seems easy and interesting as well as it does look like a regular webcam. But I don’t know if I can do it because I don’t want to download too much stuff to my computer or iPhone. Downloading makes me nervous because I might get some kind of virus or something that will mess up my computer, and I don’t want to deal with reinstalling windows.

I remember in the past when I used to play various games all over the internet, my computer used to get all kinds of viruses, bugs and crap, and I ended up reinstalling windows many times. I don’t want to go through that because my Windows 10 is the free version that I downloaded on my desktop. So, it would be hard to reinstall it again, if I have future issues. I have to buy a new Windows 10.

I thought I would share this video for anyone who is brave enough to try it and tell me how it works for them.

Apparently, many people out there do these free steps and youtube demonstrations without getting a webcam, although I was told by someone else that a webcam isn’t expensive anyway.

I have actually tried other youtube demonstrations about fixing issues with my iPad or computer. So, I will try stuff like this when I am really desperate, as a last alternative, in order to try to fix something myself. And, only if I have thoroughly researched it elsewhere to make sure it is compatible or it is safe to use on my computer.

This technique had been already in circulation sometime in 2013. That was 3 years ago and there are so many tutorials on the Web. It needs a wireless connection, just the function of a bluetooth. I don’t have an iphone but I have a mobile or handy phone. I could also convert my phone as a webcam as long as there is a wireless connection from the PC to my phone.

I don`t have a fancy phone, just a plain phone that I can call for help if I break down on the side of the road. But I have a built in cam on the laptop and I used to use the old fashion home computer webcam, I am sure I still have that one, somewhere.

I shared this article on stumbleUpon 🙂

I don’t really do stuff like this, either. If I really need to use a web cam for something I’m doing online, I can do it using a mobile version of a trusted app, like Skype.
