If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.African Proverb
No man is an island.
There is no I in a TEAM.
I completely agree with this saying. If we want to go fast and want no one to hinder our way, let us go alone and fast. But if we want to go far, we need the help of others – so we go together with our companions or friends.
Whether we accept it or not – we can’t live alone. May be we can in different ways, but we can’t go alone in a battle – and if we want to reach the hilltop, we need companions to go farther.
In a team rowing competition, you can’t paddle alone against the teams. In a dance group that requires lifting, we can’t dance alone. In a ballroom dance, you can’t perfect the routine with a partner. There is always this other member who can help you achieve the goal. If you are aiming to win the swimming relay, you can’t swim alone, for every lap you need to touch the side of the pool to stop the clock and swim another lap. You can’t dance alone in a synchronize swimming competition. You can’t go solo in a duet contest. You need someone to help you in a battle game called tug-of-war. You can’t play in a 3-on-3 basketball game alone, you need 2 more players to compete. You can’t go solo in a volleyball game, you need the receiver, setter and a spiker to win.
I hate the Filipino’s “crab mentality” because instead of working together to achieve one goal. They are pulling each others down to achieve their personal goal.
Remember to reflect on this – go solo when you want to go fast. And go with companions when you want to achieve team goals together.
